This workshop combines practical exercises and lectures in both the classroom (2.5d) and field (1d) to provide participants with detailed knowledge for working with Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizards (Gambelia sila, BNLL).  Topics include BNLL natural history and habitat use, safe handling and measurement, protocols for collection, transport, and translocation, protocols for post-translocation monitoring, and a CDFW regulatory overview for when such protocols may be implemented.  Participants will practice skills such as handling and measuring with both surrogate species (e.g. Western Fence Lizards) and live Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizards during the workshop.  Classroom days will be at Fresno Chaffee Zoo and the field day will be to Panoche Plateau where Fresno Chaffee Zoo has repatriated captive-reared BNLL since 2023.  The workshop is intended for individuals seeking Designated Biologist (DB) status on Incidental Take Permits (ITPs) for BNLL and assumes participants already have level-2 surveyor status.  Participants who complete the workshop and pass a final assessment will be provided with a certification good for 3 years that can be used as evidence of experience toward CDFW and USFWS permitting.  Price includes food and drink catered during the workshop and supplies.   All proceeds from the workshop will directly support Fresno Chaffee Zoo's efforts to conserve and rewild Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizards.

A minimum of 12 participants must register for the workshop by September 11, 2026 or the workshop will be cancelled, and all registration fees will be returned.
